What are Licensed Producers?

Licensed Producers (LPs) are the companies that are given permission by the Government of Canada to produce medical marijuana.

There is a rigorous application process to become a licensed producer and restrictions on how they can sell medical marijuana and in what form.

They are required to meet extensive security requirements and must notify their local government and police about their business location.

Health Canada conducts compliance and monitoring activities of LPs and ensures they are compliant under the controlled drugs and substances act.

There are currently 26 license producers in Canada with a reported waiting list of several hundred companies waiting for approval. Only producers who are authorized to produce and sell to the public may sell dried marijuana, fresh marijuana or cannabis oil to people with a prescription.

Sites like Lift have a listing of license producers in Canada including reviews on things like customer service, price, ordering and delivery.

LPs are an important part of the medical cannabis infrastructure in Canada.
