Today, SunLife announced it will be adding medical cannabis coverage through an optional Extended Health Care benefit. They indicated this decision was made following a review of the current medical evidence. This is part of an ongoing trend in favour of medical cannabis coverage by insurers. This is fueled by human rights decisions like the Skinner case, where denial of coverage of medical cannabis was found to be discriminatory.
